Extra! Extra! Read All About It!!

Posted on Apr 16th, 2007 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Those of you in the Bay area might have caught a glimpse of us in Sunday's SFGate. If not (or if you missed us; this weekend was too beautiful to spend time indoors with the paper), you can read the piece here:

Responsibility is in their sites.

Nice title, hm? I wish I'd thought of that. :)

It's a great article on the emergence of web entrepreneurs focused on giving rather than getting, and Zaadz is profiled among a handful of other incredible changing-the-world sites. We love any news piece that spreads the word about the double (or triple ;) bottom line, and how more and more companies out there are working to promote social good as well as succeeding economically--and, well, we like seeing our name in print, too. (Because seriously... the world needs to learn about this community!)

Anyway. Have a read! (And, um, make sure to forward it on.) The piece raises some great questions and will introduce you to a few other excellent organizations, too.  Good stuff.

One more thing. Earth Day is coming up! We're sure you've all got big plans for that day, so if any of you Ambassadors would like to help spread the world about us by passing out a few fliers (or wearing your Zaadz t-shirts!) at any events you'll be attending, and need extras, please let Obi know by the end of the day today.

Congrats on the big splash of a story in our local paper, the SF Chronicle. I wish they'd covered more of the local sociaal entrepreneural success stories here like Rubicon and LaborFair.com.

By the way, zaadz friend, Mother Jones got the exclusive story of Stanford students' hunger strike in solidaarity with Stanford workers getting a living wage - something that LaborFair supports as a core part of its mission.

Plus many members here might love hear about the conference in Long Beach this week where social entrepreneurs are meeting.

Or read the book that came out in Jan. 2007:
Business Solutions for the Global Poor: Creating Social and Economic Value.

Tom Friedman's new meta message is congruent with social enterprises: sustainability:  “Green is the new red, white and blue,” so LaborFair joins the related campaign, America the Green.

In May there's a related conference here in S.F.:  the Investors’ Circle 2007 Spring Conference & Venture Fair. “Patient Capital for a Sustainable Future” will gather angel investors, professional venture capitalists, philanthropic investors and entrepreneurs who are using private capital to promote the transition to a sustainable future. ”

As Bono has inspired a massive global movement to “<http://www.one.org/>make poverty history”, here in the S.F. Bay Area, LaborFair, a small, eight-month old social enterprise is providing a practical tool for consumers to support the working poor in moving up the economic ladder to a better life, as they do their best work.

Brian: why not keep the momentum going from this S.F. newspaper article and become a visible voice for social enterprizes?  Invite others to share their business model for making money by doing good
