Gaia Development Update...

There's been some requests from the community for more transparency into site development and the behind-the-scenes work. We keep a pretty regular schedule of weekly releases, and I was thinking it might be fun to post them publicly. (The list gets boring at times--bug fix bug fix bug fix--but you're welcome to use your imagination about things like "crashing the log daemon" in hopes of keeping things interesting.)
So. This week's deployment included (along with a series of smaller bug-fix tickets):
- Added checkbox to administration user info tool to delete spam bookmarks when suspending profiles
- Added rel="nofollow" to blog/profile links to prevent some recent problems with link spamming
- PERFORMANCE: sped up 'Friends' Blogs' pages
- Posted new "Gaia is Dreaming" page
- Added ability to toggle Ambassador responses on landing page
- Fixed a recent bug in our newsletters introduced by prior closing of zPro
- PERFORMANCE: Vastly improved speed of inbox / mail pages
- PERFORMANCE: Increased speed of getting recent discussion posts to members
- Fixed issues with some logs not getting correctly sent to the logging server due to large messages crashing the log daemon
Fortunately our poor daemon will no longer cringe at large messages. So type away. :)
And please check back next week, because (yay!) Jess will be announcing the winners of our latest scholarship. I could write pages about that selection process and how unbelievable the applicants (both young and old) have been, but I think I'll just be patient until then.

FYI, it wasn't large user messages crashing our log daemon, it was large error messages. When there was a problem on our system, sometimes the cause went pretty deep and created a ton of text.
Anyway, nothing to think or worry about - your epic metaphysical missives have not been in danger, nor shall they be (but always Ctrl-C / copy to the clipboard, just in case :)
