Friday Five in the Now!

Posted on Feb 6th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Hello Beautiful People :)

It's Jessica.

Life can be crazy.

If you’re at all like me, you have plans and schedules that keep your life on course. Those plans are all well and good, but I do find myself lost in them from time to time. I forget how to really be in the present. Our days can be so full that we can't see the forest through the trees. So, this week’s Friday Five is about the present. It’s about today. It’s about the place we are in and how we’re feeling. It’s just a few little questions that reminded me to check in with myself and know where I am whether it’s Friday or not. You know how to do it ;) Copy and paste them in your blog, add your answers and tag 'em with Friday Five.

So, enjoy :)

1) What made you smile today?

2) What’s the weather like where you are?

3) Who did you talk to today? (you can tell us one or more)

4) Are you hungry, thirsty or content right now?

5) What are you thankful for in this moment?

Here's mine ;)

I hope you all have a brilliant day, filled with moments of wisdom, growth and goodness.

Friday Five on Valentine's Love

Posted on Feb 13th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Hello Beautiful Gaians!

This is Jessica.

Today is Friday the 13th (spooky!) but, tomorrow is Valentine's Day. Some people are down on Valentine's because they have lonely hearts. But, this day is a wonder and celebration of one the most beautiful things experienced or witnessed by human beings: Love. It is magic, divine and a great blessing whether shared by lovers, friends or family. It is a joy in the midst of our chaotic world. This week I'd love if you would celebrate with me and the Friday Five. I don't care if your single or happily conjoined. If you are a cynic or as sappy and silly as I am. Everyone is blessed by love in life, and I love you :)

And guess what?!?! If you are looking for that special one, we've just launched Gaia Soulmates so you can find your enlightened partner for long walks on the beach, cuddles, soulful meditations, political analysis or whatever floats your unique and beautiful boat.

Now, without further ado, please join me in this week's romantic Friday Five. Copy the questions, paste and add your answers in your own blog, as always ;)

1)  Are you a romantic?

2)  Where did you go on your best date?

3)  Do you like red lacy paper hearts and Valentine’s swag?

4)  How do you show friends love? (Hugs? Thanks? Smoochies? Gifts?)

5)  Do you like chocolate?

And what about me?

Happy Valentine's Day Lovlies! I hope all your days are filled with love :)

Friday Five of Things :)

Posted on Feb 20th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Hello my wonderful Gaians!

This is Jessica :)

I've been thinking about things. Literally. Objects. The material world. Economists say Americans are comsuming less in the context of a challenged economy. And, spiritually inclined people might say this is a good shift. Things are of course, just things and they fade. They often matter most because they represent a person or idea, like your childhood teddy bear or the bracelet given to you as an anniversary gift from your partner. So, today we're exploring objects and our relationship to them in the Friday Five of Things!

Won't you join me? You know what to do! Just copy and paste the questions in your blog and add your own answers:

1) What have you bought recently?

2) Which special object(s) hold meaning for you?

3) What was the last present you gave?

4) What little things make your life easier?

5) Do you like to throw things away?

As for me...

Don't forget to tag your blog with Friday Five :) And tell your friends!

Yikes! What happened?

Posted on Feb 24th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Gaia people!

Oh, goodness. We had a bit of an exciting morning. If you popped by here with your mug of coffee before starting your day, you might have ran into a few slow or balking pages.

Not one of Gaia's better moments—the site got a bad case of the hiccups and it took a while to get her breathing smoothly again.

(If you want to help, just take a long, deep, relaxing breath.... phew. That was a little harrowing for all of us behind the scenes.)

We're back now, though, and excited about a beautiful week ahead. And we've got a few fun updates ahead of us, so please stay tuned!

Question: What's your best hiccup remedy? Perhaps we can try it next time...

Peter Russell + Gaia Community in Ode Magazine!

Posted on Feb 25th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team

I've written about Peter Russell before (I love how he's expanded James Lovelock's Gaia hypothesis in such beautiful directions, and the size of his heart alone would make him one of my personal heroes), so imagine my delight when, paging through my latest copy of Ode, I found our community mentioned!

The paragraph is here:

Still, via the Internet, Russell envisions change that could save humanity. He echoes Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh's idea that "the next Buddha will be a sangha." In other words, the next awakening will come via a communal breakthrough, rather than the insight of a single being. "Social networking, YouTube: This is allowing us to begin to think collectively, to solve problems collectively," Russell says. "I think we're going to need that sort of collective thinking to solve some of the problems we're up against." The Gaia Community (gaia.com) is a good example of what's taking shape, Russell says. "It's a social-networking site dedicated to exploring issues around consciousness, environment, personal development, human potential and the power of a shared vision."

Go us!! And the rest of his interview / article is no less wonderful. It's here, if you'd like to read. :)

(And, if you haven't seen his amazing presentation, The Global Brain, please, please consider a watch! For me it IS Gaia...)

Back to our regular updates / releases...

Posted on Feb 27th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team

Speaking of which, a new Gaia version just went out!  We're this much closer to inducing the big global O :)

In our latest release, you'll find:
  • Snippets of recent conversations on the main page of each Group;
  • The return of your Me icon (back by popular demand!) in top-right header, for quick access to profile and messages;
  • A nice batch of database query improvements, especially pages that access lists of friends;
  • That we added Discussions to main search results, and that
  • We re-ordered results to help people find discussions (rather than Groups) when they're poking about on the site;
  • That when spammers get booted, more of their schmoo disappears (including messages);
  • A few improvements to the Quote cleanup process;
  • That up/down arrows now toggle in accordion;
  • Your line and paragraph spacing will be more consistent across browsers, when using the new editor; and that
  •  Email subject lines (you know how RE's would rise from the dead?) will be more logical now.
And next week, we should see faster site/page responses, as EngineYard (our host) is providing a new proxy mechanism to divert requests that used to sit behind slow requests over to slices that are less busy... like switching lines at the grocery store when you see someone ahead of you start counting pennies. :)

Love,
:f, ~M/cRG
