Friday Five of the 4th of July

Posted on Jul 3rd, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Hello All

Jessica here.

Tomorrow is the 4th of July in the USA, our Independence Day. And this week our Friday Five is about just that, tea parties in Boston, fireworks, powdered wigs and sovereignty.

1) Do you celebrate the 4th of July?

2) Which do you prefer: pasta salad, potato salad, cole slaw or apple pie?

3) Do you watch or read the news? (freedom is a global issue afterall)

4) Do you vote?

5) Would you have fought in the revolutionary war?

Here's  mine :)

Gaia Welcomes :)

Posted on Jul 8th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Hello All!

It's Jessica.

I'd like to share about a few amazing new members on Gaia. We're all here searching for kindred spirits, so here are two more for our beautiful community...

Say hi to Emmanuel, who calls himself the Motivatorman, so if you need a boost, he's ready to offer positivity and joy ;)

Gaia: What in your life gives you the most joy?
Emmanuel: I love being creative and sharing my inspiring stories through writing, art, music and making fun videos.  What completes that joy is connecting with people through these stories.  Movies really energize my spirit so I especially love sharing that in my blog of motivational tips.  Delicious foods also fill me with foodgasmic energy!

What called you to Gaia? What were you seeking?
I discovered Gaia through an article written here by Stephen Simon.  He has been a great inspiration since I read his book “The Force Is With You”.  I want to also connect with like-minded souls around the world on this site and explore synergy for accelerating each other's purpose on this planet.

What would you most like to learn, or what would you most like help with?

I would love to connect with like-minded souls with business skills that could assist my mission in helping people overcome unexpected change and crisis.  I have an array of motivational content of FEEL GOOD tips and would like to work with people who believe in my vision to help change the world.

What is your favorite animal?

Though I do not own a dog I love dogs because they always live in the present.  They inspire me to keep living in a state of joy and in moment! Learned this from Cesar Millan, The Dog Whisperer.

Next we have Irina, a beautiful new Gaian from Finland...

Gaia: What in your life gives you the most joy?
Irina: To play with my old dog which doesn't have much time left … to love/care for others and be able to make a differance in society!

What called you to Gaia? What were you seeking?
To find more spiritual friends and feel more connected and share.

What would you most like to learn, or what would you most like help with?
I would like to develop to be more open and receptive to different people and spiritual systems…. I would like to share my experiences and my world with gaia members.

What is your favorite animal?
I have many favourite animals the Deer because it is my soul animal.. who care heal through gentle ways … the Falcon who brought me from previous life in Tibet to be reincarnated in Europe. The Dog my protector/loyal friend who can sense things about persons when I doubt my own intuition.

Please help me say hello, offer warm greetings and share with our new Gaians :)

One more Gaia Giveaway...

Posted on Jul 9th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team

My wonderful Gaia beings!

It's Siona, here with our next book giveaway--although this week, we're starting with a DVD. :)

Some of you have already met one of our new members, the remarkably talented SaTek. He's generously gifted a copy of his BodyJuggling workout DVD for us to raffle here; you can see what to expect from his artistic program in the YouTube clip below. If you've got a fitball you'd like to put to gloriously elegant use, this is the drawing to enter. :)

Body Juggling IPhone spot

Next up is a novel: Peter Seidel's 2045 - A Story of Our Future. (I know, I know--life goes on beyond 2012? Who'd've thought?) It's an imaginative and dramatic story by a writer who happens also to be an environmental architect and planner. If you're into big-picture visions or curious about what our future might look like, given our current trends of corporate ownership, technological advancement, and environmental degragation, you'll love this book.

And last but not least, I have a beautiful new copy of a just released book called The Compassionate Life: Walking the Path of Kindness. This one is a true gem--the author, Marc Ian Barasch--explores in a deeply personal and revealing way the power and path of compassion. It's one of those serious science meets ancient spirituality reads (I'm sure you're familiar), though the writing remains spritely and fun.

So--you know the drill! Send me an email at books@gaia.com with the book (or--ahem--DVD) you'd most like to win, and we'll have a drawing next week. Good luck! :)

Friday Five of Sleep

Posted on Jul 10th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Hello Gaians :)

Jessica here!

It's time for this week's Friday Five. I don't know about you, but I've had quite a tiring week with late nights and early mornings and it's got me thinking and reflecting about sleep. We all need to sleep to recharge and dream. It helps us stay sane. They say both too much and too little rest can cause harm. So what's the sweet spot? Tell us a bit about what you think of sleep.

1) How many hours of sleep do you usually get each night?
2) Are you a morning or night person?
3) Do you remember your dreams? Are they vivid or fuzzy?
4) When is the last time you stayed up all night?
5) Can you sleep anywhere, or do you need to be all cozied-up just right in your own bed?

Here's what I do.

I hope you all have a beautiful, restful weekend filled with good dreams and warm blankets.

Friday Five of Funny

Posted on Jul 16th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Hi Lovelies!

Jessica here.

Laughter is a blessing. I think it makes life easier and sometimes is what gets us through the day. Humor can heal when you're feeling down or just want to feel better. This week's Friday Five is all about what makes us overflow with giggling.

1) What's one of your favorite funny movies?

2) Do you like sarcasm?
3) Who in your life makes you laugh?
4) Have you ever laughed so hard you cried or your drink came out of you nose?
5) Answer the following: Why did the platypus cross the road? ...

Here's what I think is funny ;)

I hope you all have a beautiful weekend filled with joy and laughter!

Friday Five on Searching

Posted on Jul 24th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Hello dear Gaians!

It's Jessica.

I was just talking to a friend about searching, for answers, for the tools that work for us, for people who can help us along on our path. This week's Friday Five is about the experience of searching and what we find. Please share with us so we can inspire each other and grow together :)

1) Who is one person in your life has helped you grow?
2) Do you meditate?
3) Do you have a daily/ weekly practice or do you just go with the flow?
4) What book(s) have helped you better understand yourself, life or people?
5) What is one (or two) things you like to do to expand your horizons? (meet new people, travel, go on retreat, read new books, watch inspiring films)

This is what I do.

facebook and twitter

Posted on Jul 24th, 2009 by Gaia Team : Gaia Team Gaia Team
Lovely Gaia people!

It's Siona, here with a little mini-update. :)

This doesn't greatly affect those of you who are already citizens of our online sphere, but if you're curious about the new little options at the very bottom of the 'Me' (or 'You!') tab of your sidebar when you're logged out, here's an explanation.

Ryan recently got us integrated with RPX Now, so new members can log in and create Gaia accounts using their facebook or twitter (or Yahoo or OpenID or Google) accounts. While they'll have to continue through the usual profile creation process, there are some nice benefits to this connection: interests and books and the like can be automatically added to new profiles, and Gaia status updates can appear on facebook or twitter feeds.

If you're already a member, you can, if you wish, associate a facebook or twitter (etc) account with your Gaia profile just by logging out, and then using the appropriate link (Sign In using) at the bottom of the sidebar when you return to log in. (And yes, you can always dissociate--I think that's the right word--the account using the 'Settings' tab in your sidebar.)

And of course, if you are on twitter, please follow us at Gaia Community. And say hi when you do. :)

WIth that, have yourselves a beautiful, rejuvenating, and love-filled weekend. Your hearts make such a difference in this world, and I'm so, so glad to be connected to each.

Hello All,

Sometimes life is challenging, but there are always things to make us feel a little better and remember the sunshine. This week's Friday Five is all about what make that little light go on and crack a smile even during tough times.

So share the joy...

1) What's one thing you can do today to make yourself a bit more joyful?

2) What is one thing you really appreciate in your life/ the world/ the universe?
3) What movies or tv show can make you laugh?
4) Do you have a favorite food that makes you smile?
5) Who is one person you can hug to cheer up and be cheered up by in return?

Here's mine:)
